Overview

The Broads is home to some of the UK’s rarest plants and animals, with 28 Sites of Special Scientific Interest and numerous nature reserves. The Authority works to balance conservation with sustainable tourism and recreation, including angling.

Angling and Fishing

While fishing licenses are issued by the Environment Agency, the Broads Authority enforces local byelaws and conservation measures. Anglers can enjoy coarse fishing across the waterways, but must follow rules to protect the fragile ecosystem. Fishing is highlighted as a key recreational activity in the area.

Conservation Efforts

The Authority focuses on habitat protection, water quality management, and species conservation. Projects include reedbed restoration, water vole surveys, and climate change adaptation to preserve the Broads for future generations.

Visitor Information

Over seven million visitors come annually. The Authority produces the Broadcaster magazine with tips on activities, including fishing, boating, walking, and wildlife spotting. Visitor centers provide information and resources.
